چکیده

This paper describes an efficient approach for face recognition as a two step process: 1) segmenting the face region from an image by using an appearance based model, 2) using eigenfaces for person identification for segmented face region. The efficiency lies not only in generation of appearance models which uses the explicit approach for shape and texture but also the combined use of the aforementioned techniques. The result is an algorithm that is robust against facial expressions variances. Moreover it reduces the amount of texture up to 12% of the image texture instead of considering whole face image. Experiments have been performed on Cohn Kanade facial database using ten subjects for training and sever for testing purposes. This achieved a successful face recognition rate up to 92.85% with and without facial expressions. Face recognition using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is fast and efficient to use, while the extracted appearance model can be further used for facial recognition and tracking under lighting and pose variations. This combination is simple to model and apply in real time. KeywordsActive shape models, active appearance models, principal components analysis, eigenfaces, face

Face Recognition by Cognitive Discriminant Features

Face recognition is still an active pattern analysis topic. Faces have already been treated as objects or textures, but human face recognition system takes a different approach in face recognition. People refer to faces by their most discriminant features. People usually describe faces in sentences like ``She's snub-nosed'' or ``he's got long nose'' or ``he's got round eyes'' and so like. These...

Principles and Methods for Face Recognition and Face Modelling

This chapter focuses on the principles behind methods currently used for face recognition, which have a wide variety of uses from biometrics, surveillance and forensics. After a brief description of how faces can be detected in images, we describe 2D feature extraction methods that operate on all the image pixels in the face detected region: Eigenfaces and Fisherfaces first proposed in the earl...

Face Recognition Using Eigenfaces

In this paper we discuss some problem of Eigenfaces which is ignores in the previous work that is the question of which features are important for classification, and which are not. Eigenfaces seeks to answer this by using principal component analysis of the images of the faces. This analysis reduces the dimensionality of the training set, leaving only those features that are critical for face ...

How Should We RepresentFaces for Automatic Recognition?

ÐWe describe results obtained from a testbed used to investigate different codings for automatic face recognition. An eigenface coding of shape-free faces using manually located landmarks was more effective than the corresponding coding of correctly shaped faces. Configuration also proved an effective method of recognition, with rankings given to incorrect matches relatively uncorrelated with t...

Face Recognition without Features

then recognize the person by comparing characteristics of the face to those of known individuals. Our approach treats the face recognition problem as an intrinsically twodimensional recognition problem, taking advantage of the fact that faces are are normally upright and thus may be described by a small set of 2-D characteristic views. The system functions by projecting face images onto a featu...
